Tupies collection creates a playful balancing act between luminous objects and human shapes, regional fashion, and cosmopolitan centerpiece. The star designer was inspired by the diverse textiles of the various indigenous communities in the Amazon region during one of his trips to Colombia.
Curití, a weaving town in the north of the country, is famous for its vibrant colors and rich variety of fabrics. To capture the unique spirit of the region, local artisans worked with Colombia's fique fiber, which is obtained from a type of agave, and dyed it in shades such as burgundy red, olive green or deep blue. The fibers were then woven into fringed skirts made from macramé braids - which presented Herkner and Ames with "a myriad of challenges".
German designer Sebastian Herkner is a long-term collaborator of ames and has visited Colombia multiple times to experience the country’s cities, nature and people first hand. He also visited many of the ateliers that ames has partnered with to learn about the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. A sought-after contemporary designer and recipient of many industry awards, he has worked with many international design brands, creating intriguing pieces that showcase his intuition for interesting material, colour and texture combinations
